Dear readers,
right-wing politics are succeeding in a vast manner. Authoritarian and militarisation politics are coupled with a catastrophic capitalism in the wake of the climate catastrophe and are sweeping everywhere: from the Philippines to Germany. And yet, resistances, refusals, strategies of realizing a better world are being formulated and fought for. You, your organizations and medico are part of this struggle. The peak of any militarisation politics is war. Felix Litschauer takes us on an historic and analytical journey through the different current and past theatres of war to elaborate on how war and health politics are intertwined. Global health politics are not only intertwined with warfare, but also with the global capitalist systems. The west in the heart of them. In her piece, once again nothing learnt“, Anne Jung sheds light on the economics of global health taking the Mpox epidemic as a starting point. Learning from each other, Rosalinda Tablang, director and emergency relief coordinator of our Philippine partner organisation Samahang Operasyong Sagip (SOS), draws lessons and gives advice on how to work in aid, especially during the overlapping catastrophes, under authoritarian and repressive regimes. After the fall of the Government our Partners from the organisation Gonoshasthaya Kendra and representatives from National Garment Worker Federation spoke to us about the backgrounds, the hopes and the strategies for the coming transformation in Bangladesh. Returning from visiting our partners in North East Syria/Rojava, Anita Starosta gives us through her travelogue an insight into the challenges facing the political geography of the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. Germany´s role in the current international affairs, especially the war in Gaza, has been criticized from different standpoints already. In her piece “From Windhoek to Gaza” German journalist Charlotte Wiedemann draws an analytical link between the German colonial history and the current German “reason of state”. Yassin Al-Haj Saleh looks from the inside of the exile community in Berlin at how this reason of state is articulated against those who are marked as outsiders asking: “Am I a Berliner?” As we navigate these challenging times, the power of collective resistance, critical reflection, and sustained action remains essential. Together, we can continue to push for change, confront injustice, and build a future grounded in justice, health, and peace.
